Happy New Year.
Happy New Year to everyone. I for one love New Year’s Day.
There are two reasons for this:
First, New Years Day is a marker where a year lies out before us, fresh and full of promise to make of it what we will. There is something refreshing about that, something hopeful, something good.
Second, it means the dreaded holidays are over! Yay! It means, shopping, cards, gifts, this faux spirit that seems to get a stronger and stronger basis in consumerism is put back in the box until right after next Halloween.
Halloween because that’s when the stores start barraging us with all the Christmas decorations and reminders it’s a good idea to ‘shop early!’ 2 months of this finally put to rest.
Since January 2nd is tomorrow, I can almost bet you that we’ll be seeing Valentine’s decorations up before the end of next week. Somehow, VD (don’t even get me going on the irony of Valentine’s Day’s initials being the shorthand for Venereal Disease) doesn’t quite have the same impact on the psyche as the Christmas season.
Anyway, the NEW YEAR beckons so get out there and CARPE DIEM! Happy New Year to you all!
